Waiting for Dunkin' and Starbucks pumpkin spice lattes? Here's how to make your own

Summer still has another month to go, but autumn flavors are already hitting shelves. Dunkin' is releasing its fall menu on Wednesday, and Starbucks is rumored to start serving its lineup on Aug. 24.

No other item is as anticipated as the pumpkin spice latte. The perfect blend of spices and espresso makes for a drink to wait for all year.

Can't wait until the fall season starts? Here is a pumpkin spice latte recipe to skip the drive-thru and make your very own at home!

Ingredients

  • 2 cups milk

  • 2 tablespoons pumpkin puree

  • 1 to 3 tablespoons sugar (depending on how sweet you like it)

  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract

  • 1/2 cup strong hot coffee

  • 1/2 teaspoon pumpkin pie spice plus more for garnish

  • Whipped cream for serving

Pumpkin pie spices

  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon

  • 1 teaspoon ground ginger

  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves

Instructions

Add milk, pumpkin puree, and sugar to a saucepan over medium heat. Heat until hot but do not boil. Remove the saucepan from the heat and whisk in the vanilla, pumpkin pie spice and the coffee.

Divide the mixture between two mugs. Top with whipped cream and a sprinkle of pumpkin spice.

Now you can make autumn's signature drink anytime of the year. Curl up on the couch with a slice of pumpkin pie or coffee cake to really ring in the new season!
